Sarkin Fulani Was Sentenced To 7 Years, Bawa Task Social Media Influencers. Justice Sanusi Ado Maaji of the Kano State High Court today August 30, 2021 has convicted and sentenced one Ado Abubakar Sarkin Fulani, to seven years imprisonment.

Ado Sarkin Fulani was convicted on a count charge of obtaining by false pretense. He allegedly induced one Ibrahim Balanti to make payment into his account. In which he promised to get him enlisted into the Nigeria Customs Service.

How Ado Fulani Defrauded The Complainant

Ado Sarki Fulani had claimed that he had a customs officer friend by name, ACG Ahmad Jibrin, who was purportedly given slots to fill at the Service.

When the complainant showed interest, the convict asked him to pay the sum of N530, 000 (Five Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira Only). The complainant subsequently paid the sum of N330, 000 (Three Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira Only) in the hope of securing the appointment.

When the job offer was not forthcoming, Mallam Balanti realized that he had been duped. And demanded a refund of his money to no avail.

The Judge read the charge that “you Ado Abubakar S Fulani sometimes in January, 2021 at Kano within the jurisdiction of this Honourrable Court, with intent to defraud did obtain the sum of N330,000.00(Three Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira Only)”

“The said money was from Muhammad Balanti Adam, you caused to be paid into your First City Monument Bank account number 6491929010. This was under the false pretence that you will secure an offer of appointment for him with the Nigeria Customs Service”.

“The offence is contrary to section 1 (1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under section 1 (3) of the same Act.” The defendant pleaded guilty to the one count charge.

In view of his guilty plea, prosecution counsel Salihu Sani asked the court to convict him accordingly.

Justice Maaji convicted and sentenced the convict to (7) Seven years imprisonment without option of fine.

The convict was also ordered to restitute the sum of N330, 000 (Three and Thirty Thousand Naira Only) to the nominal complainant.

Anti-graft War: Bawa Tasks Social Media Influencers, Commends Winners of Challenge

In a related development, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa on Thursday, August 26, 2021 tasked social media influencers and entertainers. This was in order to use their platforms and crafts in promoting the fight against economic crimes.

Speaking during an engagement at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, the EFCC boss said he had always wanted to interface with social media influencers and entertainers, considering their clout and influence on the social media space.

Furthermore, Bawa expressed his intention to sustain the engagement, urging them to join hands with the Commission in fighting corruption. This is because it needs the involvement of everyone.

Bawa further lamented on the alarming increase of cybercrime in the country. Especially among the youths, adding that some social media celebrities were using their platforms to promote scams investments scam which has become very rampant. He urged them to desist or face the wrath of the law.

Highlights of The Events

Part of the highlights of the event was the presentation of awards to the three winners of the #togetheragainstcorruption Challenge These are Agih Moral Unekwu, Victor Collins Nebo and Abdulrazeez Ademu, by the EFCC chairman.

In his words, Bawa said “I want to say congratulations for emerging as the winners of the #togetheragainstcorruption challenge”.

“This act displayed, I believed, is out of genuine patriotism to see that we get rid of financial crimes especially cybercrime. Thank you for participating and I encourage you to keep up the good work. We are proud of you,” he said.
