Officer Dehumanizing Corp Member Was Unprofessional and is Unacceptable Says Army. Recently, a video has surfaced online of an Army lieutenant. The Army officer used an unknown liquid substance to torture and bath a Corp member. The video is a clear man inhumanity to man.

The Nigerian Female Soldier, Lt. Chika Viola was caught on camera Dehumanising, Bathing Corps Member, Ezeiruaku Ifeyinwa Fidelia with the unknown substance in Calabar. This was for allegedly arguing and disrespecting her.

A journalist captured the incident and shared in his social media handle. According to the journalist he said the incident took place at 13 Brigade headquarters in Calabar. And that the leadership of the Nigerian Army are working towards covering the matter.

The Nigerian Army (NA) on the other hand, said it has observed the video clip currently making the rounds on the social media. In the video, a female officer was seen dehumanizing a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Calabar, Cross River State. The Army continued by saying that the act is not only condemnable, but unprofessional and against established precepts of discipline in the NA.

Furthermore, the Nigerian Army continued by saying it has remained undoubtedly the pride of the nation. It also said the Army is a symbol of national unity that has consistently being in the vanguard of respect for the fundamental human rights of the citizenry.

In addition to that, the Army said it is against this premise that the NA condemns this unimaginable level of infraction by a personnel in its ranks. The Nigerian Army therefore, condemns in strong terms, this act of gross misconduct. Undoubtedly, the officer’s actions has caused the NA monumental embarrassment and is highly regrettable. This unfortunate act of indiscipline does not in anyway represent the NA and will not be condoned in its entirety.

Where Did The Incident Happened

For the records, the ugly incident is said to have occurred in 13 Brigade, Calabar. The Brigade Commander immediately instituted an investigation. The officer involved has been identified and sanctioned on the interim and would be made to undergo regimental orders (trial) in line with the extant provisions of the Armed Forces Act.

The Nigerian Army said rumours that the Brigade attempted covering up was therefore misleading, as the NA remains a professional force that has zero tolerance for indiscipline amongst its personnel.

Such Infractions Would Not Be Tolerated Says Army

The Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate and assure the general public that such infractions would not be tolerated from its personnel.

The Nigerian Army also reassures Nigerians that the rights of the citizenry is sacrosanct and must be respected by all personnel of the NA, as any form of infraction will be severely dealt with.

Therefore, the general public is enjoined to continue to report such infractions. This is because all Human Rights Desks in all formations of the Nigerian Army are emplaced to deal decisively with such erring personnel.

Humann Rights Violation By The Military Has Continued To Persist Despites Condemnation

Human rights abuse by the military and other security agencies has continued to persist despite condemnation. Many Nigerians had fall victims to these officers. Some Nigerians have lost their lives to the happy trigger military personnel.

We are hoping that the officer would be punished according to her wrong doing. To serve as a deterrent to others.

The NA further wishes to tender unreserved apology to the victim, her family members, friends, National Youth Service Corps and to Nigerians in general for the unwholesome treatment meted out to the Corps member.
